Dischi and I were talking today, and we both feel that before we proceed, we should reevaluate our current architecture decisions -- specifically evas, the scope of hardware support (at least initially) and also the way we're doing OSD with the media players. Some of our decisions will likely upset certain portions of our user base. Nothing is written in stone yet. Since the early stages of my prototyping and proof of concepts (with MeBox, that resulted in kaa.mevas, and then later kaa.canvas over evas) there has been some other development activity that overlaps a fair bit with our requirements. Projects like pigment, clutter, and graff merit some close consideration before we decide to duplicate a fair bit of that effort. Furthermore, I have increasingly been getting cold feet about evas and it's dubious that it will meet our long term needs. Evas is a fantastic 2D image pusher, but I don't think we should be putting our eggs in that basket, at least not without reevaluating our current options. kaa.candy will likely exist no matter what we decide on, because we have fairly high level layout requirements that the current libraries don't seem to offer. But the API may end up changing considerably as a consequence of choosing a new backend.
