I think that reverting to a more traditional release cycle might help 
this. Next release would you consider doing rc releases? Users are much 
more likely to notice and test these, emailing the lists just a few days 
before a release won't ever get the same response I fear.

I'd also think that this may be bad enough to warrant a 1.8.2.1 as 
package maintainers themselves often won't notice these issues, they'll 
just package up the latest release. These then get included in distros 
and often end up biting people as the try out freevo for the first time 
which obviously isn't what we want. This just ends up reflecting poorly 
on all the work you personally do to keep freevo moving forward which is 
a real shame in my eyes as you do a great job.
