Evan:

I'm on Comcast myself and have a PACE RNG110 set top box. I've had great luck
controlling it through the firewire port, believe it or not. I started by using
the Motorola 6200 STB Control wrapper (the PACE apparently uses a similar or
the
same command set as the 6200). Recently I wrote my own wrapper for the
stb-command module. stb-command supports many more features above just
inputting
channel numbers and my wrapper has code to control the power to the STB.

(stb-control's code page is here: http://code.google.com/p/stb-command/)

I submitted the wrapper in the tracker under bug #3108244. Setup is a bit
rough,
but I've been using it successfully for months now. I've only tested it with
the
RNG110, but the stb-command page lists many different boxes that can be
controlled.

Also if you're interested... My RNG110 outputs the raw MPEG-TS stream of the
tuned channel out the firewire port and I've written a recording wrapper for
dv_grab to capture the video. This one I've tested a little and it works well,
but since my poor Freevo doesn't have the oomph to play back full HD (yet), I'm
still primarily recording via composite into my PVR-250.

Hope at least the firewire control helps you out some!

James
