Thanks for your reply Jason.

You were right actually :) I don't have the time nor the motivation to do that 
rewrite, and I know it won't be useful to you guys because that  would 
practically be ditching kaa-base and it's a really big change to make it work 
on Windows.

I think I'll have to skip loading kaa-metadata on Windows unfortunately. But
