That was exactly the same behaviour on my machine, restarting fixed it ... But it think it was a version like 1.3.x! Unfortunately i don't remeber what i did to fix it, have you tried removing alle freevo files (except your local_config.py and freevo.conf and rclirc) and installing freevo from scratch?
