I would like to know your SDL version. Are you using SDL's dfbmga-like support (new SDL env vars) or directfb with primary-layer set to CRTC2?

I'm using SDL 1.2.6 with the environment variable SDL_VIDEODRIVER=dfbmga:nospic

Also how is your mpeg2 playback from the pvr-250? Myself and others experience horrible jitter with dfbmga. Are you NTSC or PAL? What kernel version? :)

PAL resolution, gentoo-patched (with v4l and i2c-2.8.1 stuff) kernel-2.4.22, ivtv-0.1.9.
If you mean the sort of "delayed live playback" through the tv.ivtv_basic_tv freevo plugin, well, that's almost perfect if I compare it with the playback of the recorded shows (via "cat /dev/video0" till now, or recorded with the same pvr250 under the other OS) in mplayer-1.0_pre3, where it jerks from time to time (unlike playback of DivX & stuff in the same mplayer on dfbmga:nospic). I find that strange, too.

So far, I'm using mplayer for movies, DVDs and audio (unfortunately Xine
does not support directfb 0.9.20, I pray that will change soon), and the

I hope so too.

1. Every time freevo starts the ivtv-viewer, or mplayer, the screen
horribly flickers on my TV until freevo releases the directfb display
and the other application comes in, and the same on going back. I still

Yes, I HATE that. If you are using multi-app then look in freevo for where it does stopdisplay and startdisplay. Try it without, maybe you'll have luck. I have a feeling you will run into problems with DFB access permissions to layers though, both SDL and mplayer could use some work.

Will try that tonight.

Ok, now some promissing news for DirectFB Freevo users. I got an email from Dmitry Borisov yesterday and he made a pydfb python module. Thomas Schueppel of mmpython & freevo made a similar module as well. They are both python interfaces to directfb but Dmitry's follows the same interface as pygame. Pygame is what Freevo is based on and it used SDL. So, theoreticly we could have the option of using pydfb instead of pygame thus giving directfb users a huge advantage. So, I am investigating this. I will followup in a seperate email with my "vision" for this.

Thank you so far, Rob! I'm eager to hear the good news though. Lucian
