Hi.
I have a problem that many of you might have found before. It is about
recording audio with mencoder. I've read the help in the wiki about this
subject. I've also tried dma audio capture, with no success. These are things
that I've tried:
If I try to watch tv with this:
mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:norm=pal:channel=41
It seems to work. With the proper adjustment of the mixer and the use of the
small cable from the tvcard (bt8x8, btw) and the to the audio card, I can
hear tv, using alsa by default. But mplayer says that there is no sound. I
think this is the clue.
I try recording:
modprobe btaudio analog=0 digital=1 (this creates /dev/dsp)
mencoder tv:// -tv
driver=v4l2:norm=pal:channel=41:adevice=/dev/dsp:forceaudio:audiorate=32000
-ovc lavc -oac pcm -o test.avi
I can hear the audio via the cable, even after killing mencoder. But mencoder
doesn't record. It just creates a file with one image, because mencoder waits
for an audio stream forever, until the video buffer overflows.
modprobe btaudio analog=1 digital=0
After this, mencoder will record with image but with no sound.
Trying to use only alsa:
mencoder tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:norm=pal:channel=41:adevice=alsa -ovc lavc -oac
pcm -o test.avi
I get an "unable to open 'alsa'. Cannot set semuxer'. Apparently mencoder
doesn't understand this, but this is the syntax that freevo would use by
default.
So this is what I have. I think that the main problem is that when I load
btaudio I get a /dev/mixer device, but I have no way to control it, as it is
oss and kmix, amixer, etc, are for alsa. I've also tried to load snd-bt87,
which should be the alsa version of btaudio, but there is no effect.
So that's all. Of course, when I have this working I'm sure i'll be able to
set up freevo to do it well too.
Any help?
Alberto
