This is slightly off topic, but the real-world performance of GigE is nowhere near 1Gbps if you use a hub. I don't have the math in front of me, but I don't think you'd achieve even 50% performance (typical for 10BaseT) over copper-based GigE of reasonable length (more than a few meters).
Not sure if a full-duplex link (switched or cross-cabled) would let you achieve close to 1Gbps assuming that your computer can keep up though.
