As we all know, getting perfect playback on all file types when you own a widescreen TV-set is not trivial. Most mpeg2-files are coded with aspect ratio 4:3, regardless of what type of letterboxing is used, while avi files are unrecognizable altogether. In order to view these properly, mplayer needs to be forcefed aspect ratios and in some cases also cropping.

Given all this, it would be great if there were some way of grouping a given set of movies/recordings to be played back with parameters based either on their location (directory), a string in the filename (ie, 2:35, 16:9 etc) or through keypresses on your remote after starting the movie.

An alternate way of doing this would be within fxd-files, and that would be great, but from what I've heard so far this is not a supported feature yet, and I'm looking for something that works NOW.

I'm sure lots of other people have met this problem as well, so if you'd please describe how you solve the problem of letterboxed movies on widescreen TVs it would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Ole Andre
