I guess you are talking about avis. They have an index at the end the
player needs to seek. Mplayer wants this index as much as Windows
does, but mplayer starts without it.

Or something different: yes, it should happen with all files. You
can't open a file which is already open from another app in
Windows. Too bad, with Linux you can delete a file while it's open and
it's working fine. :-)
