check the freevo-devel list i have submitted such a plugin. it is called commands.py. It uses the exit status of the process to detect success or failure. It logs the stdout and stderr of the process to logfiles in freevo's logdir. It does not currently accept input parameters or show the logfiles in the UI. these are being weorked on.
