hmm.. it works when you run mplayer manually, but not in freevo?
i use a dxr3 card for the sound, works fine with ac3..
-ao oss:/dev/em8300_ma-0 -ac hwac3,
I accidently executed -ac hwac3 on /dev/dsp, and it the sound from my
speakers
went fzzzzzzzzzz ;), so i guess it would have worked if my soundcard had
spdif ;)
But if you can get digital ac3 when you run mplayer manually I see no reason
why
you couldent use it in freevo.
Have you checked the freevo log if it really executes mplayer with the right
arguments?
