Mplayer can load automatically subtitle files which have the same name
than the movie file (only the extension is different). You could also
write a small script which automatically generates the FXD file from the
movie filename and the subtitle filename.

Might be possible, but not that practical if you have lots of subtitles
which you have to choose from, imho.
