Hi everyone noob here. Freevo looks exactly what I need!

I have however not been tinkering with Linux for long.

BACKROUND (I need a media box):
I did concider getting a modded Xbox and running the XBMP (another
amazing sourceforge tool!) but there is no way to capture video, and I
just HATE VCRs seen as the one I have just seems to eat tapes like kids
with happy meals at a Macdonalds birthday party.

NOW (help!):
SO. After finding Freevo I looked at my current PC and it seemed I was
in luck!

I currently have:

- Abit KT7a Mobo
- WinTV PCI Card
- nVidia gForce 2 MX (with TV out)
- SBLive! SoundCard

It seems that the WinTV card has great Freevo support and that most
nVidia cards work too :-)

SO, I could de-commision my current box and run Freevo downstairs on my
TV right?

Well, yes if I had any idea where to start. I am in need of some dire
help here!

One of the problems I have is my basic linux knowlege! :-(

Sure I know a 'few' things, have a 'few' magazines. But I have only
managed to install Red Hat 9, wich was as easy as installing Windows.
Slackware, Gentoo and even Morphix all eluded me on the Linux front!

Another problem is when I run Red Hat on my current PC it cant find my
WiFi network as there is no support for my USB arial :-( so once I cant
get online to:

a) get help

And

b) download freevo!

So, my plan is this, before I turn my PC into a Freevo box and go out
buying a new Machine I wanna see how the thing works. So I plan on
downloading Freevo using windows and then sticking it on a CD and
installing it on Red Hat.

Still with me?

BUT,

I didn't know what files to download?! There are so many on the
sourceforge downloads page? It says on the site to download the 12mg
version? I cant find such a file????

What is the freevo file to download? I don't want the 'source' just the
'installer'..

Can anyone help with this frankly embarrasing question :-(

AND, once running thru Red Hat and working (jumping ahead here) would it
be possible to make the machine BOOT right into Freevo as the Desktop
instead of having to run Red Hat first?

ALSO, how easy would file sharing between this box and my Windows
machine be? I have a WiFi router with a single network port, of course I
need a standard Cat5 network card to connect the thing, or a Linux
friendly WiFi card/arial.

Right then, il just read this mail before sending it.......

Hmm..

Looks ok :-)

If anyone has advice/ideas or just general mockery then please, pass it
my way..

MKJones...

Thank you,,,,
