In your local_conf.py there is a option like this:
MPLAYER_ARGS_DEF
It has the defaults that would be used by all file types.
Then, if you have specific options for avi, or mpg, or realmedia or
whatever, you add them to:
MPLAYER_ARGS = { 'avi' : '...',
...
}
