You will have to bear with me--I have been using Freevo for a few weeks now and am trying to figure out some of the more advanced features. Right now, I am delving into the folder.fxd options. Everything in this email applies to the cvs version of Freevo, by the way.
Before getting into specific options, I do have a question. It seems that while folder.fxd is being picked up and (at least some...) of the options are read and used, it also appears in my directory listings as if it were a file in my media library. Is this correct? Am I missing a setting or maybe folder.fxd might not be in a "don't display this" list (along with "CVS" and various dot-directories)?
Anyway, fxd files allow a <setvar name="PROPERTY_NAME" val="PROPERTY_VALUE"/> element. Some of these are documented, but many do not seem to be. In an attempt to figure these out, I have picked through the code and come up with the following notes. Can anyone who is more familiar with the usage of these particular features help me flesh out the missing details?

- -------------

directory_autoplay_single_item
1/0 for true/false
If there is only one item in the directory, play it.

force_skin_layout
- -1/1 for use default / force text listing
Force a directory to show its contents in a particular style: as icons or as text. It seems that I can only force an icon layout to show as a text layout, and not the other way around. It also seems like there should be additional values available (-1 and 0 through 2, I believe), but cannot get anything but 1 to work.

directory_sort_by_date
0/1 sort by name/date
Sort by date instead of name (useful for television series and the like...?)

movie_playlists
???

directory_smart_sort
0/1 for false/true
???

cover_dir
STRING
Location of "cover" image (typically for a TV series, but could be for an album)

audio_random_playlist
???

audio_format_string
STRING
This looks like a string for formatting album display info that uses the standard Python "%" operator with an associative array. It does not seem to work for me, unfortunately. It looks like the following items should be valid:
%(a) : artist
%(l) : album
%(n) : track number
%(t) : track title
%(y) : year
%(f) : filename
example: "%(t), by %(a) on %(l)"
Again, I cannot seem to get this to work.

use_mediaid_tag_names
0/1 as false/true
Pull metadata from ID3 tags? Does not seem to do anything for me.

- -------------

So that is what I have. I did not see any additional places in the code where <setvar/> is used, but I could have missed something. Please help me trace down how these features work!
