I don't have either entry in my local_config.py file on either machine. Both machines are set up identically, with the single exception that I had to specify where my CDROM drive is on the Mandrake box (which works) because I have a CD Burner and thus use the IDE-SCSI interface to access my drive. I could have probably accomplished the same thing by making a symlink between /dev/cdrom and /dev/scd0, but I haven't tried. The SuSE box detects my CDROM from reading fstab.

For ordinary CDs with only one AVI or OGM file on them playback starts immediately, without going to the menu first. VCDs never start playing automatically. If I knew which Python source file looked at the VCD and figured out how many menu items it had I could probably figure something out.

Do you have a
DIRECTORY_AUTOPLAY_SINGLE_ITEM = 0
or
DIRECTORY_AUTOPLAY_SINGLE_ITEM = 1

line in your config files? That might have something to do with it.
