I run Freevo on an Asus Pundit (exclusively on TV-out) with no support for anything like interlaced output (not that any cards seem to have it, but I'll be happy if you prove me wrong here). So when using f.x. Xine I use the post-processing TVTime "Linear interpolation" mode, which seems to work great, at least on my small sample of interlaced DVDs (Futurama and B5).

My question is, how much quality am I throwing away? Does interlacing actually add quality or is it, as many sources tell me, only a hack to help against the bandwidth limitations of broadcast TV? In other words, is 25/30 images per second enough on a TV? And do I really waste half of the vertical resolution when de-interlacing?

I will research this a bit on google etc., but this seemed like a good place to ask. :)
