You should try this on a Mandrake 9.2 install yourself so you know

First of all, please subscribe to [EMAIL PROTECTED] for any further discussions on this topic. The project mailing list is the standard support method for most open source projects.

Secondly, no-one is getting paid to work on Freevo. Pretty much all of the developers have full-time (or more) jobs, so everyone will work on whatever they think is fun if/when they have time. Suggestions for improvements is one thing, but it isn't realistic to expect people to install a new linux distro to help you.

The project depends on contributions from volunteers. Have you added anything to the Freevo Web Wiki about how to install it under Mandrake?

It looks to me so far that freevo is just a menu "front" for a lot of
other already existing programs.

How is a comment like this supposed to be helpful in any way?

So why not write a perl (without new modules all over the place
please! sheesh!) or python script that simply goes to a TV guide site
(or two) and sucks the info like XML tv does, and drop the XML crap,
it's just another layer you don't need to deal with. Put it in a
simple database format (not mysql, overkill), and be done with it.

Ok, will you do that? There are reasons no-one else has so far:

1. Xmltv works, even though it is hard to install. Why reinvent the wheel?
2. It is harder than you think to write a good grabber.
3. The website formats change often, so it would need a lot of on-going support.

If you really want to help, why not make a binary/standalone XMLTV package that includes Perl, XMLTV+modules etc? This would enable others to use it with only one download. Or at least document step-by-step how to install it under your distro?
