Since the onboard video of my SFF PC is rather crappy (It's S3 Prosavage8),
I'm looking at getting a proper video card for my "Freevo Box". While I could
whack in a low-end NVidia GeForce card, and be pretty comfortable that the TV
out will be decent, I've also decided that I'd like the PC to double as a
normal PC games machine. That means dual-booting into a Windows variant for
games (or using WineX or similar).

Either way, I'm looking for a card which:
*Works well under Linux for Freevo purposes (decent TV out, hardware scaling
support, etc...)
*Will give me shiny Half-Life 2 support, when the game is finally released.
^_^

Given the latter, I'm considering an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro series of card, since
they're reasonably priced, and have good grunt for HL2 (and other 3D games).
However, I'm very wary of ATI's linux support - and yet, looking at the ATI
site, I find they've released a linux driver 3.2.8, which, mentioned in the
documentation, supports TV out! I also remember reading previously somewhere
that ATI framebuffer support is very good for Freevo.

So, my question is, is the ATI support up to scratch these days? Would it be
better to set up X for Freevo, or go with the framebuffer? Will TV Out for
both be supported? How does ATI compare to NVidia for Freevo purposes? (And
as an aside, how does the 3.2.8 driver 3D support compare to Windows
performance, quality & features?)

Thanks...
