Well, with that and a little fiddling I actually got the sound working. It still
sounds slightly distorted when anything loud happens, but it's tolerable. It's almost
like the line out from the tv card is powered or something... Anyway
Thanks!

Also, for posterity, here are the settings that worked from my Sound Blaster Live,
BT848 and Mencoder
Line 77%
Aux 77% (Captured)
Capture 7% (Captured)
AC97 0%
AC97 Capture 100% (know one knows why, but this seems to matter for the quality.)

 | I turn capture on for 'capture' and 'line'.
 |
 | A very good page describing the alsa Soundblaster Live Volume controls:
 | From http://opensrc.org/alsa/index.php?page=SBliveMixerControls
 |
 | Here they say about 'Aux'
 |
 | Auxilary (another internal connector ) volume control
 | On my SBLive Value, this controls the level of the second (non-CD,
 | non-TAD) internal audio connector.

 | So this is probably the reason why you're getting no sound when recording.
 |
 | I am recording through /dev/dsp0, with capture set to 53 and capturing
 | enabled on it, and with line in set to 75 and capturing enabled on it.
 | I never managed to get btaudio working, but I guess that's because my TV
 | tuner card doesn't support it.
