I use a old DVD rom drive I found on ebay it was the only black face dvd-rom
that also had a black tray that I could find. It's an old 2x lite-on DVD rom
drive and cince the slower drives are quieter that makes a difference.  I
also use rubber o-rings to isolate the drive from the case a bit to dampen
sound transfer, but this requires modifying the drive mounting cage a bit.

I have a 1100, it seems to slow down when playing a DVD. I don't hear
it when watching a movie.

But for the 1100, you should hurry up. It looks like NEC doesn't
produce the drive anymore and since it was very cheap, some stores
don't have it anymore.
