Yup, what you're missing is that the G400 has special cable to hook
up to the second VGA port, and that provides composite and S-video
output.

They can be a bit tricky to get hold of, though, if it doesn't come
with the card.  But Matrox does have a pinout for it in their support
wossname, so if you're handy with a soldering iron you can make one
for yourself.

With nVidia-based cards you have to ask "which TV-out chipset?".  That's
not part of what the manufacturers get from nVidia, so they use different
ones.

With the G400 you can at least be sure it'll look as good as any other
G400 you see.

Personally, I'm using a DXR3.  I found that for some reason mplayer
would lock the machine up on exit when displaying to either a G400
in framebuffer mode or a GF440MX in X, but it's quite happy with the
DXR3.  I may switch back to the G400 at some point though, as the DXR3
limits you to SDL apps.
