nope v4lctl fails on the pvr250 video card. it errors on it. I'm sure there
is an app that comes with the driver for this card, it's just that there is
no documentation for the ivtv driver except for a few developer notes and
looking through sourcecode to find commands. and what documentation they
have is a couple versions old so module commands listed like debug=1 no
longer work.

as soon as I find out, I'll add it to the wiki so that others dont have to
go scrounging..

I don't have it installed but maybe v4lctl will handle this.  Also make 
sure it is the recording thats dark and not your tv-out, just a thought.
