ok i got ./freevo tv_grab working. I did not have the /etc/localtime set and i also upgraded to the lates vertion of xmltv. Gentoo still has version 5.23 marked as stable.

What version of Xmltv? What version of DateManip? Did you setup your timezone
properly? What's the output of "echo $TZ" ?
