I had this problem too, you'll need to downgrade libsdl.
libsdl seems to be broken since last upload, several apps crashes too like 
armagetron and tuxracer. (perhaps they need to be rebuild against it). 

download libsdl from 
http://snapshot.debian.net/archive/2004/01/01/debian/pool/main/libs/libsdl1.2/
install it and mark it as "hold" with dselect until a new package is uploaded.
