I'm owner of both cards. At the time I bought the G400 there was no way to get the tvout (second head) of my older(!earlier bought) G450 to work on the console. There are now kernel patches to get it working. But the development of the G400 tvout is in my opinion in a further progress and easier to configure. The tvout-cable has a different pinout and the RAMDAC also is more complex of the G400 (second head) to get more modes separatly from the first head to work. I'm very pleased with the stability. There are different ways to get freevo to run with the cards (directfb and framebuffer mga mode). So if speed is not so important (for games or 3D-development) and only to get a multimedia box to work I would recommend the G400 - passive cooled with 32MB Ram. (if it will work on a newer board). The voltage of the pci-card should not be the problem and the AGP-Mode should also work on newer boards (maybe not on all). I'm running the G400 on a Gigabyte VKML (Via KT266) flawless. The great advantages are the quality of the tvout and the stability and development of newer drivers/software. (Take also a look to www.directfb.org). So at the end the G400 is more flexible than the G450. But if the G450 works now fine (I don't know if it is so) with the new kernel patches and is once correctly configured for freevo it seems also to be a stable working solution. The speed differences of both cards for video playback are minimal but the capabilities of the tvout on the G400 are much better.
I'm interested in other opions of users who are working with a G450/G550 and their experiences with the tvout.
