Hi folks,
I've got an older PIII 700 laptop which I bet would work for Freevo. The only things I need (I guess) are an external HD (as the built in one is only like 20gig) and some kind of external video capture / output device. Unfortunatley, the laptop doesn't have s-video output.
Anyone know what I might use for the latter? And does Freevo play nice with external USB drives?
I've had good luck with some of the higher quality ($80-$120) external SVGA-to-TV converters. Some of the lower-quality units don't produce very good video signals, but the high quality units can rival the TV out on a video card. eBay is a good source for these.
Freevo has no idea what a USB drive is - it's just another mount for it to handle, and you don't even need to have Freevo know about it if you mount it at boot time (probably a good idea). I do this with a network share - I mount it to /movies on each of my Freevo playback boxes, and keep all the files on a single server.
Regards, Chad
