Ok, back again....
Having "display = dfbmga" in my freevo.conf does not ouput the freevo
picture to my TV like it should.
However, if I play a movie while freevo is runnig, the movie plays on my TV,
then I exit, and freevo re-appears on my monitor (not my tv).
mplayer also works correctly if I specify -vo dfbmga
Yes, all the necassary SDL env. variable are set:
export SDL_VIDEODRIVER=directfb
export SDL_DIRECTFB_MGA_CRTC2=1
export SDL_DIRECTFB_MGA_STRETCH=1
export SDL_DIRECTFB_MGA_OVERSCAN=1
If anyone has some more suggestions, I'm open to them! Thanks in advance.

Don't know if it will help much, but here is the ouput from freevo & mplayer
when they are run:
ROM_DRIVES: Auto-detected and added "('/mnt/cdrom', '/dev/cdrom', 'CD-1')"
Can't find lsdvd. DVD support will be limited and maybe not
all discs are detected. Please install lsdvd, you can get it
from http://acidrip.thirtythreeandathird.net/lsdvd.html
After installing it, you should run 'freevo cache --rebuild'
