/dev/dvd /media/dvd subfs fs=cdfss,ro,users,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0
this is the line in the freevo config:
ROM_DRIVES = [ ('/media/cdrecorder', '/dev/cdrecorder', 'CD Burner'),
('/media/dvd', '/dev/dvd', 'DVD') ]
I can play dvd's in mediaplayer with
$ mplayer dvd://
Is there anything else I can do to troubleshoot this problem?

I'm having problems accessing DVD's from freevo. Both my cd and my dvd drive is visible when they are empty, or when they have music discs in them. Both can access music disks. But when I insert a DVD it won't show up. The dvd is properly mounted and accessible from otherwise. I can browse through it with, for example, midnight commander.
So what is wrong here? The dvd is quite old. It cannot boot cd's for example. Can this be the problem?
