Ah, one thing I forgot to mention yesterday. I can't play TV like
"mplayer dvb://<channel>". This is what Freevo calls when you want to
watch TV.

So, is there something wrong with the system setup - should DVB:// be
available even with budget card?
Or should I just dig in Freevo to call something else to watch TV?

Thanks,
Dale

You need a valid channels.conf file in you .mplayer directory. If you
don't have one yet, you can use the 'scan' utility from dvb-utils package
to make one. You can see more information on setting up a dvb card under
linux eg. from http://www.ethics-gradient.net/myth/mythdvb.html

That's what I already have. I do have channels.conf. But can't access
"dvb://", maplyer says that URL has no hostname part. Of course it has
not.

And yes, I do have mplayer compiled with DVB support.....

Thx for the link, will investigate.

By the way, did you find information somewhere on using a dvb card under
freevo. I've been waiting for freevo to support one, but it seems that
there are various ways it can be made to work at least somewhat with some
effort. How did you manage to do it?

I did not :(

I can see the TV from console, using "tzap + mplayer /dev/*" but not
using "mplayer dvb://" and neither from freevo.

Cheers,
Dale

Are you adding a channel to 'mplayer dvb://[channel]' ?

tzap selects a channel and gets the ball rolling for mplayer to just
display it. Running mplayer by itself requires a channel to be defined.

I use the following in freevo to watch DVB;

** These lines in TV-SETTINGS
TV_SETTINGS = '%s television %s %s' % (CONF.tv, CONF.chanlist,
TV_DEVICE)

TV_CHANNEL_PROG = './chchan %(channel)s %(norm)s %(freqtable)s'

TV_RECORDFILE_MASK = '%%m-%%d %%H-%%M %(progname)s - %(title)s'

TV_RECORDFILE_SUFFIX = '.ts'

VCR_AUDIO = (':adevice=%s' % AUDIO_DEVICE +
             ':audiorate=32000' +
             'buffersize=64')

TV_REC_SIZE = (768, 576)

TV_VIEW_SIZE = (768, 576)

VCR_CMD = CONF.mplayer + ' -dumpstream -dumpfile %(filename)s
"dvb://%(channel)s"'

VIDEO_GROUPS[0].group_type = 'dvb'

TV_CHANNELS = [('free.Perth.2HD.d1.com.au', 'ABC HDTV',        'ABC
HDTV'), # this section really depends on your channels.. one line for
each channel.

***This line added to mplayer_args
'dvb'    : '-vf pp=de/fd',

Hope this is of some assistance, and isnt something obvious that you
have already tried. I apologise if this is the case.
