Ronan,
it depends:
if system doesn't start the window manager:

add a line to /etc/inittab
freevo:35:once:/etc/startfreevo.sh

create in /etc a file named startfreevo.sh
++++++++++++++++
#starting I2C and lirc
setserial /dev/ttyS0 uart none
setserial /dev/ttyS1 uart none
modprobe i2c_sensor
/etc/init.d/I2C
modprobe -f lirc_serial
#this way I start freevo
rm /var/run/freevo-main.pid
cd /usr/share/freevo
setenv LANG nl_NL.UTF-8
startx /usr/bin/freevo  -- -layout TVscreen < /dev/tty5 &
export DISPLAY=:0
xset -display localhost:0 s off
freevo recordserver start
freevo encodingserver start
++++++++++++++++++++++++

perhaps this isn't the best way, but it works fine for me
