I have this same problem. I would like to know the answer. I just got the
remote functionality working this past week (I tried 4 different remotes until
I found one that wasn't flaky). From the command line when I run
"ircat config=/etc/lircd.conf freevo"
every button I press comes through without any hesitation, but in Freevo
sometimes I have to press the button several times before it will respond to
the command. Any suggestions?

I seem to remember the weather plugins seemed to affect the that
sometimes. I would disable all plugins and see if it still happends.
