The bfdetect filter is an -vf option so thats a bit harder to implement
in a seperate line since there's a possibility that users all-ready use
a -vf filter somewhere else in there commandline. (mutliple -vf entry's
are asking for trouble is my experience)
Apart from that I have no clue (due to my python-dislectics) how to pass
it on to the record plugin.
Furthermore I see no entry in generic_record.py wich does something to
the fxd file...

Your thinking to high of me, even binairy machine code makes more sense
to me than python does.

I converted the subtitle plugin back to original and added an
"comercials" option by editing:
fxdhandler.py
mplayer.py
videoitem.py
That's working fine by adding an entry in the fxd like:
<variants>
<variant>
<part ref="f1">
<comercials id="f1">movie_name.avi.edl</comercials>
</part>
</variant>
</variants>

I beleive that adding a black frame before and after the comercials is
only used in Europe, so Azien and Amerikan users won't benefit from this
option.
Is this (limited) audience enough to justify making an entry in a
production version?
If so it's maybe a good idea to ask the mplayers team to add the
bfdetect patch in production versions of mplayer. (not everyone has the
knowledge/time/tools to patch there mplayer and recompile)
