The only solution I found was to downgrade to python2.3. Yes, I also found that on MDK10.1 there was a much more extensive list of packages to install.
I stuck them all in a directory and plan to update the wiki later with this list as the list there is Fedora Core 2 specific. But generally, the install was *much* less painful this time than it was about 1-1/2 yrs ago when I last did it.
