Hi Carsten,

 you might probably consider http://xf4vnc.sourceforge.net/ , which adds an 
vnc module to your X-Server. It will not export any overlay or video displays 
(xv, xvideo etc.), but it works great for controlling freevo.
It's also a big help when it comes to debugging, and your TV is not in the 
same room as your computer ! ;-)
