Try tvtime, it uses a common and very good deinterlacer (DScaler) .
To change to tvtime add:
plugin.remove('tv.mplayer') �
plugin.activate('tv.tvtime')
to your local_conf.py. Recording could be done with mencoder, see
the wiki for more infos.
