Hi! This is probably an old idea, most likely possible to realise within
the current freevo framework, but as I haven't had any luck with it, I
thought I'd better post it as an idea.

I want to create a special main menu item for my daughter, pointing at a
directory in which I can continuously add movies, songs, pictures, some
selected SNES, NES and C64-games etc (without having to manually
maintain an fxd file). What I fail to do is to have freevo process this
directory of mixed content, and select the right action for each file (I
want a thumbnail shown if it's a jpeg, a screenshot shown if it's a
SNES-game, a frame if it's a movie etc, and I want freevo to launch
snes9x if a game is selected, xine if a movie is selected etc).
Preferably, a mime-ish icon could be shown next to each file.

Would this perhaps require a main "file/directory module", which sits on
a number of backend modules (corresponding to the current movie, music,
game module etc)? The mapping of file to actions could be done either
with file suffixes, or with the 'file' command in case there are
ambiguous suffixes.

Another advantage of this would be that you could have all your
various emulator games in the same, sorted list. I personally would
like the idea of sorting by game, and not first by emulator.

It would still be possible to get the current freevo behaviour (with
movies in it's own sub menu etc), for those who like that.

PPS. I saw this one in the wishlist wiki:
"* Autoupload of pictures from a digital camera when plugged in over
USB". I have implemented this as a script invoked by an event trigged
in /etc/hotplug/usb/usbcam. In case anyone thinks this is a good
starting point, send me a message.
