I reported this problem previously and have since found that the exact same
thing happens in Xine. The screen goes black and then returns back to
Freevo. I got no response last time, but it seems others have had similar
problems. I'm using Freevo version 1.5.3 and my distro is Mandrake 10.1.

This problem sounds similar to some problems I have seen on the list, but I
haven't seen a solution yet.
I am trying to setup a new box with freevo on it, so I started with trying
to play video. Freevo starts up, I go to TV->Recorded Shows and pick the
video to watch. The screen goes black for a few seconds, and then it goes
back to Freevo without any message. The log is pasted below. Interestingly,
when I copy and paste the command to start mplayer (/usr/bin/mplayer
-autosync 100 -nolirc -autoq 100 -screenw 800 -screenh 600 -fs -slave -ao
oss:/dev/dsp -v -vo xv,sdl,x11, -cache 5000 -idx //media/tv/sunlight.avi -vf
pp=de, poll=256), it plays. Also, there is nothing in the mplayer log.
