I got things working finally. I ended up upgrading the kernel (don't think
this was it).
I also removed the stock SDL 1.2.8 slackware package (pretty sure this was
it).
Rebuilt SDL 1.2.8 from source (again, for like the 5th time).
Rebuilt pygame 1.6 from source (again, for at least the 5th time).
After a reboot, and messing with the /etc/directfbrc file a bit, things
started working!
I also got my CrystalFontz 633 lcd working last night too, but not with
freevo... I will start another email thread for that though.
Thanks everyone for your help!

I have been trying to get Freevo 1.5.3 working using directfb 0.9.22, and
my Matrox G450 video card, but I am unable to figure out what is wrong. I
am running Slackware 10.1 (kernel 2.4.29).
SDL 1.2.8 successfully detected DirectFB (I checked the config.log).
pygame seems to build & install successfully also.
I am also able to run mplayer using -vo dfbmga & directfb, but freevo
just will not run, here is the output:
try
freevo works; xmame not:
no SDL vars
freevo ~ # cat /etc/directfbrc__
tmpfs=/dev/shm
matrox-crtc2
matrox-crtc2=/dev/fb1
matrox-tv-standard=pal
matrox-cable-type=composite
mode=720x576
primary-layer=02
depth=32
no-cursor
bg-color=FF000000
pixelformat=RGB32
hardware
sync
no-vt-switch
or just try:
matrox-crtc2
matrox-tv-standard=pal
primary-layer=02
it should be sufficient.
If things work for you using SDL variables please send me some info how
did you build your freevo from source.
