I've commited to give a talk on Freevo and demo my box for the local LUG. It's being VERY well publicized and will be happening next week, so I'd like to clean up some loose ends. Also, I'll share with this list a link to slides when I get them done.

My box:
2.6.10 kernel, DirectFB on a G400DH (TVout no X), SB Live, ATI TV Wonder
Most everything works.

My problem:
I'd like to record a TV channel and capture audio. There are two ways (maybe more). 1. I have a internal patch cable (like the analog CD audio ones in everyones cases) hooked up right now. It goes from BT878 to the SBLive. It works for "watching TV" if I turn in the "line1" with setmixer. So typically the audio comes out your speakers when you are recording it unless you mute while recording is on. Doesn't this limit me from watching something else when the show is recording?

2. The other way (sounds like from the FAQ) if I have the BT878 capturing audio then things work better when recording because it's a separeate card from my play (out) card. The problem with this is it seems that there is no way to hear audio when just doing passthrough "watching TV". (This is because my SBLive needs audio through it's internal patch cables to send right out the speaker out?)

Can I have my cake and eat it too? Can I have both "live watching TV" and "recording TV" with good audio in both cases? Hardware limited?

Maybe if I fiddled with the ALSA devices and mixers I could get more flexibility to do what I want?

Thanks for any help,
Scott Serr
