Are you using those Mini-itx boxes? and are you using the unichrome graphics with xxmc? if yes, perhaps you want to try [snip from unichrome mail list ] video.device.xvmc_more_frames:1 in your ~/.xine/config file. Which should make the xxmc module buffer 15 frames instead of 8, just like the Xv module. Should even make mpeg2 playback smoother, but it then consumes more frame-buffer memory.
