Maybe you are right. Looking at the mplayer devel list and the design,
everything speaks for xine:

o the mplayer developers are busy flaming eachother and everyone
  sending patches to the list.
o your vf_osd patch is still not in cvs
o mplayer can't change the filter chain while playing. This is bad for
  recordings when the show itself is 16:9 and the stuff before that
  4:3 and mplayer starts 4:3 and never changes
o latest posts on the devel list don't look like G2 will hit the
  street
o the xine people accept patches and help you create one (only my
  seeking bug is still there, but maybe we "fix" this at kaa.record
  level)
o xine is a lib with plugins, mplayer a huge monolitic monster

The only thing about xine I don't like is the massive use of
threads. When I have some time and your canvas code is more developed,
I guess I should try xine only in freevo. BTW, is the sws code in xine
working already?
