I take power from the PSU already, the signal line is -12 at rest and
during transmission it wavers between -10 and -9.5, i did design a small
circuit which inverted the signal and, brought it back up to a voltage
which would trigger the transistor and therefore transmit the IR signal
as expected. 

I just can't be bothered to build it. ;P
