OK, so I believe this is the problem with the spdif/digital-out. The same problem is with xine. I am using sb-live. All other media goes through spdif perfectly/including AC3 raw streams. Does anyone have any clues for rerouting the mpeg2 recorded stream to spdif so that it really works?
Thanks
Jan

Hi,
I bought a WinTV PVR 150 card to benefit from hardware mpeg2 encoding. Installation of ivtv went easily (I would say, too easily after reading about all the problems). And now what happens is that I can watch TV and can record but the sound is extremely quiet and also slightly distorted (depending whether I play through analog or spdif output). I have to turn up the volume very loud to hear anything. This happens both when I watch TV with freevo/mplayer and when I play a recorded stream. When I play the same file on another (Windows) computer, sound quality/volume is perfect. So I believe this is a playback problem - maybe my linux cannot play the file correctly.

Do I need any special audio codecs/mplayer settings to be able to have decent sound? I dont really understand what is happening. Maybe I can change the format of the sound recorded. The wiki does not say much about config freevo with ivtv. BTW: I am using the default settings (copied from wiki) changed to europe/PAL, plus the tuner input is 0 instead of 4. Of course all the other media plays perfectly. I use spdif output - do I need any special settings for mplayer to play correctly? I tried same settings as for dvds (-ao alsa hwac3) but this did not change anything.
Please help
Thanks
