Another way to do the booting into freevo is to avoid the window manager completely.
In /etc/X11/gdm edit the Xsession file Look for: echo "$0: Beginning session setup..." Then insert: exec /usr/bin/freevo exit 0; Away you go. You will see a grey screen on starting Xwindows, but that's normal. Good luck.
