Yes, it works beautifully on, say, Fedora Core. GNOME overall has far
more dependencies than say E. It's really very little doubt that you
gave up, having tried to build it from ground zero.

garwhat? .. I'm not the one building the gnome packages in contrib .. I
maintain enlightenment 0.16 and 0.17 and a bunch of other stuff like
eterm, gimp and xine.
I dunno. My overall impression is: meh.
Same here ;) Not my kind of thing, Anime and linux is soooo, 1997 ;P
and yet, we use linux still..
the wallpaper isn't that important.. most of the time, it's obscured by
terminals, and I do swap it once in a while..
