You can also do an "export LANG=fr.UFT-8" before running freevo

I use these, then "favorites", is spelt correctly ;-)
LC_ALL=en_GB.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8
export LC_ALL LC_CTYPE
