All depends on your necessities. Actually, all NEW mainboards has a onboard soundcard, and those are pretty good. It's important to know which ports you need, stereo jack, SPDIF and some inputs. Aso it is important to know in what conditions will be it playing because if you have a slow pc it is better to buy a good soundcard because you will unload some % of your CPU; but in standard conditions I don't think it has too much importance. Just a soundcard with needed ports (holes) will be ok. ah! I think it is better an internal card. (pci)
