Hi all,

I've been playing with freevo for a little while now over Christmas,
trying to get it do do just what I want - I love open source and the
ability to tweak / develop things to do juts what you want. I also
really like freevo, now I've sorted my dvb card problems out I can
record tv, listen to music etc. Its really very cool.

I've been looking at dvbstream and I've been wondering about a possible
TV interface..

dvbstream can be used to multicast out the all the pids on given frequency.

Could the record sub-system be changed instead of recording using
mplayer to dump one channel, dvbstream could be used to tune to the
requested frequency (look this up in the channels.conf file). And then
use "dumprtp | ts2ps vpid apid > record.ts" to record the channel in
question.

Once this is running, the other channels on the frequency could also be
dumped to disk at the same time, provided your CPU can handle it. They
could also be watched by using a similar command and piping the result
into mplayer. These channels could be highlighted in a 2nd colour to
indicate that you could record them too, or watch them. With a good
network connection these channels could also be watched elsewhere in the
house.

This would mean that subject to CPU / IO resources, with just 2 tuners
it would in theory be possible to record (eg. in the UK) BBC One, BBC
Two, BBC Three, ITV, Ch4, ITV2, E4, More4, ITV3, ITV4 all at once! :)

Implementing it well would be challenging :)

So, any thoughts?

I would really like something similar be possible. One of the things I
would love to is have 2 tuners, but be able to record 3 or 4 channels at
once.
